Strictly speaking this doesn’t have to be the case as placing keywords in the folders within your domain will suffice, but ask yourself this when considering a domain. Why did Loans.com go for so much money when it sold 2 years ago. The answer is simple, customers search for “loans” not for specific products or providers. Having a generic domain can really improve your results.
However you need to ensure the site is not just a mirror of your existing business site as Google et al will quite possibly mark down both your sites for having duplicat content which they really don’t like.
If you lease vehicles, then either having those words in your folder name like this www.webdesign-glasgow.com/lease-vehicles or having a domain such as www.lease-vehicles.com will really improve your SEO, as long as the content on the site or page is relevent

At Kelpie Media, we realise that the chances of us coming top globally for Web Design is unlikely (the main reason being the time we can spend on our own SEO, without neglecting our customers).
For that reason we focus our attention on more local keywords such as Web Design Glasgow, SEO Glasgow and so on. We know our customers like to meet us face to face so we don’t need to be found for Web Design in San Fransisco. That may come but for now we get more than enough business in Scotland and The North of England.
So be specific in your chosen keywords, if you have a business selling ink cartridges for example try “ink cartridges [your locale]” or perhaps use one of your top selling cartridges as a keyword. The important thing is to know your business and exploit the niches that you deal in. What are your visitors looking for when they search their site. Information is king when it comes to profiling your customers which in turn can drive your SEO strategy.

Twitter is here to stay it seems, so why not jump on board and utilise its marketing power.
One important word of warning Twitterers don’t take too kindly to being overtly marketed at (or should that be to?). It’s important that if you have a service or product you would like to promote that you give people a reason to use your service hashtag (in a form like #kelpiemedia).
One great idea is to encourage visitors to your site to tweet using your hashtag in the hope of winning a prize. Your generosity will be directly proportionate to the increase in visitors to your site, but either way the result will be a greater ranking on Google as your company name is mentioned more and more on Twitter.

Here at Kelpie Media, we know that one of the most important things you can do to get your site noticed by Google, Bing, Yahoo et al, is to have external sites linking back to your site. You could approach the owner for a reciprocal link but thats unlikely to prompt a positive response and the chances are your site is not the sort that you want to have links on, especially if it is for your business. The Answer? well it’s in the question. Start answering questions on sites like http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/
Simply make sure you are answering a question relevant to your line of business and remember to include your web address. Before long you will have built up a number of links to your site from Yahoo.
That’s just one of the hundreds of techniques we use to market our customers sites through SEO. Sure you could do it yourself, but why not get a professional to write keyword rich Answers for you! If you are in Scotland or more specifically the Glasgow and Edinburgh Areas visit http://www.kelpiemedia.com to get an SEO quote.
